Hawzah News Agency- Abdul Bari Atwan referred to the drone strike on an American vessel and a Greek ship at Egypt's Damietta port, describing the incident as part of a pre-planned scenario to destabilize Egypt.
Noting that Egypt has distanced itself from regional conflicts in recent years and focused on rebuilding its military and economic strength as well as its regional standing, he stated: "It is no coincidence that Egypt has now become the top story in regional news. No one stands behind this conspiracy against Egypt other than the Zionist regime." A plot that, according to Atwan, was designed in Washington.
The Palestinian analyst pointed to Tel Aviv's silence regarding the attack, claiming the operation was devised during Benjamin Netanyahu's recent trip to the United States and his meeting with Donald Trump at the White House.
He remarked: "The attack on Damietta port is one of the fruits of the poisonous scheme, conspiracy, and sedition that Netanyahu presented during his meeting with Trump."
Egypt's Opposition to Israeli Gas
Atwan cited Egypt's efforts to reduce dependence on the Zionist regime's gas as another motive behind the move, saying Cairo is seeking to diversify its energy sources. This, he argued, is unacceptable to Tel Aviv and is perceived as Egypt breaking free from the economic domination sought by Israel.
Attempts to Fuel a Religious War
Pointing to the failure of the US and the Zionist regime to achieve their objectives against Iran, he claimed Washington and Tel Aviv are now seeking to activate the old project of instigating religious conflicts in the region.
Atwan stated: "They were defeated in war, they failed to force Iran into submission, and now they are once again seeking to incite strife between Sunnis and Shias to plunge the region into chaos."
Egyptian People's Support for the Axis of Resistance
The analyst added that a large segment of the Egyptian population views Iran positively and supports the Axis of Resistance—a reality that has alarmed the United States, the Zionist regime, and certain Arab governments.
Rejecting Accusations Against Yemen
Atwan dismissed the attribution of the attack to Yemen's Ansarullah movement, calling it part of a media operation.
Referencing the historical ties between Egypt and Yemen, he said: "The Yemenis did not take action against Egypt even when it suffered billions of dollars in losses due to reduced ship traffic in the Suez Canal. With over two million Yemenis present in Egypt, there is absolutely no logic in them wanting to pave the way for sedition by attacking Damietta port."
The Role of Ukraine
Elsewhere in his remarks, Atwan assessed recent developments related to Ukraine within the framework of the same scenario. Referring to the Iraqi government's announcement regarding the arrest of a sabotage group linked to Ukraine, he stated that Kiev's activities in Iraq, along with an attack on an Iranian target in the Caspian Sea region, point to the existence of a coordinated plan.
He concluded by claiming: "The sum of these developments indicates that a Zionist conspiracy, backed by the United States, is underway to cover up the failures they have suffered in Iran, the Strait of Hormuz, and other parts of the region."
